Registered Massage Therapy · Manotick, Ottawa

Relaxation & Therapeutic Massage in Ottawa

Relaxation massage in Ottawa is not the lightweight option. It is the right treatment when the problem is not one stubborn shoulder but the accumulated effect of a demanding few months — poor sleep, a nervous system stuck in a high gear, and tension spread across the whole back rather than concentrated anywhere. I provide therapeutic and relaxation massage at Healastic in Manotick as a Registered Massage Therapist, with hot stones included in every treatment and an Ayurvedic aromatherapy option available.

I had such an amazing experience. I came in with pain in my leg, and the care and attention she gave to that area was incredible she really took the time to understand what was going on and treated it so thoughtfully. By the end of the session, the pain had completely eased. What stood out the most was how comfortable she made me feel throughout. Her energy is calm, professional, and genuinely caring. You can tell she truly wants her clients to feel better, not just physically but overall. I’m so grateful for the experience and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a massage that’s both healing and relaxing.

Pooja is an incredible massage therapist! I’ve received several massages from her and her touch is sublime—great deep tissue work when called upon but she has the skill to ease up when necessary as well. Her kind demeanor is also an incredible plus! A true 10/10 🙂

Why Healastic

A more thoughtful approach to massage therapy

Never rushed

60 minutes, including intake and assessment where it is needed, so treatment is shaped around you rather than run to a template.

Fully personalised

Treatment is built around your assessment on the day, not a fixed routine repeated every visit.

Hot stones included

Part of every massage treatment — warming the tissue means deeper work at lower pressure, and results that hold longer.

CMTO registered

Treatment by a Registered Massage Therapist, with receipts provided for insurance at every appointment.

Integrative care

A psychotherapy background means tension is assessed in context, not just as a mechanical problem.

Long-term wellness

The aim is lasting change and a plan you can follow, rather than temporary relief and a rebooking.

Your therapist

Treated by Pooja Rishal, RMT

I’m a Registered Massage Therapist with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, trained at the International Academy of Massage here in Ottawa, and practising since 2020.

Before massage therapy I worked as a psychotherapist. That background still informs how I assess — persistent tension usually has more behind it than one tight muscle, and treating it without that context tends to buy relief that does not last.

Every treatment is provided by me personally. You will not be passed between therapists.

What relaxation and therapeutic massage involves

This treatment is built on Swedish massage technique: flowing strokes, kneading, and a steady, predictable rhythm applied over broad areas rather than pinpointed into one spot. The pressure is moderate and adjustable, and the aim is to shift you out of a sympathetic, on-alert state into something closer to rest.

I call it therapeutic as well as relaxation because the two are not separable in practice. Muscles held tight by months of stress are genuinely tight; releasing them is real physical work, even when the technique is broad rather than deep. Clients regularly tell me they had not realised how much they were holding until it let go.

Hot stones are part of every massage treatment I offer. The heat softens tissue ahead of the hands, which means the same release at lower pressure — and it is one of the most reliably pleasant things about the session.

Hot stone massage — what the stones actually do

Hot stone work is not a separate booking here; it is built into every massage treatment. Smooth, heated basalt stones are placed on and glided over the body, warming the tissue before and during the hands-on work.

There are two practical reasons I use them on everyone. First, warm tissue is more pliable, so I can achieve depth without leaning harder — better for you and better for the longevity of my own hands. Second, heat is a powerful signal to a nervous system that is stuck in alert mode. It shortens the time it takes most people to actually settle.

The stones are heated to a controlled, comfortable temperature and I check with you before and during. They should feel deeply warm, never hot. If you have reduced skin sensation, diabetes with neuropathy, or you are pregnant, tell me — I adapt or omit the stones accordingly.

Ayurvedic aromatherapy option

Alongside the standard therapeutic massage I offer an Ayurvedic Aromatherapy Massage with Hot Stones at $140. It combines Swedish technique with essential oils selected around the three doshas — Kapha, Vata and Pitta — the mind-body constitutions described in Ayurvedic tradition as influencing physical, mental and emotional balance.

The oils are used at a slightly higher concentration than in a standard aromatherapy massage for added therapeutic benefit, while remaining well within safe and comfortable limits. If you have sensitive skin, allergies, asthma triggered by scent, or you are pregnant, tell me at booking and we will either adjust the blend or use unscented oil.

Benefits, and who it suits

  • Reduced overall muscular tension, particularly across the back and shoulders
  • Better sleep — the benefit clients report most consistently
  • A calmer nervous system and lower day-to-day stress load
  • Improved circulation and a general sense of physical ease
  • Relief for people who find deep tissue work too intense

It suits you if your tension is diffuse rather than specific, if you are running on empty, if you are recovering from a demanding period, or if you simply want an hour where nothing is required of you. It is also the right starting point if you have never had a massage and are not sure what you want — we can always work deeper in specific areas as we go.

What to expect in a session

We start with a short conversation about how you have been, where you are holding tension, how you are sleeping, and whether there is anywhere to avoid. Even for a relaxation session I want to know if you have injuries, skin conditions or allergies.

Your appointment is 60 minutes, including intake and assessment where needed. You will be draped throughout and only the area being worked on is uncovered. I will settle you with warm stones and work through the body at a steady pace, checking pressure early and then largely leaving you to it — a running commentary rather defeats the purpose.

Afterwards, get up slowly, drink water, and if you can, avoid rushing straight into something demanding. Many clients book this one late in the day for exactly that reason. Insurance receipts are provided at every appointment.

Pricing & duration

Relaxation and Hot Stone — $130, a 60-minute session including intake and assessment where needed. Prices do not include HST, which is added at the time of payment.

Treatment is provided by a Registered Massage Therapist, and a receipt with my CMTO registration number is provided at every appointment for your insurer.

Direct billing is coming soon. Until it is live you pay at your appointment and claim the receipt straight back yourself — you are reimbursed exactly the same, so there is no reason to wait. Pricing & how insurance works.

Frequently asked questions

How is relaxation massage different from deep tissue?

Relaxation and therapeutic massage uses flowing, moderate-pressure strokes across broad areas to calm the nervous system and ease general tension. Deep tissue uses slower, more sustained pressure to target a specific persistent problem. Many sessions blend both.

What are the benefits of relaxation massage?

Most clients report better sleep, reduced overall muscular tension, lower stress, improved circulation and a general sense of ease. It also suits people who find deep tissue pressure too intense.

What is included in a hot stone massage?

Hot stones are included in every massage treatment at Healastic rather than booked separately. Smooth heated basalt stones are placed on and glided over the body to warm the tissue, which allows deeper work at lower pressure and helps the nervous system settle faster.

Are hot stones safe for everyone?

Not for everyone. Tell me if you have reduced skin sensation, diabetes with neuropathy, circulatory problems, or you are pregnant, and I will adapt the temperature, limit the stones, or leave them out. The stones should always feel deeply warm and never hot.

What happens on a first visit?

We talk first — how you have been, where you hold tension, how you are sleeping, any injuries, skin conditions or allergies. The appointment is 60 minutes in total, including that intake. You are draped throughout and only the area being worked on is uncovered.

How often should I come for a relaxation massage?

Monthly suits most people for general maintenance. Through a particularly demanding period, every two to three weeks is common. There is no requirement to commit to a schedule.
